Beautiful and moving writing, Jennifer (it's Allison Dean, from Putney School!). I am thinking of you and praying for you (to whatever gods will listen). Your writing is a gift and an inspiration. Thank you for it.
Allison! What a delight to see you here. I am so glad to hear from you. Thank you for your very kind words. How are you? Would love to hear about your life! xo
You’re such a brilliant writer and thinker, with 30 years of experience, and your doctor sounds very capable too, with similar years of high level work. So, this almost reads like a summit between two powerful heads of state. Except the terrain is you! I wish you’d been given wholly positive news. Glad you’re not giving any quarter.
I for one certainly understand why you'd want to continue your writers's life as well as your personal life! People don't always get it how intrinsic this is--how you receive energy from the connection. Purpose, something to look forward to, the chance to do something you do extremely well and connect to people you like. In a debilitated state, to still be able to give something. Makes sense to me. And so glad Theo's coming with. Big hugs to you in the new year.
Thank you, Janet. I figured you would understand! That is exactly right. Everything you said. Theo and I are so happy to be in Paris. We seem to be city people! And it has been great meeting everyone. Miss you! xo
Jennifer, I first heard you read at one of our Oberlin reunions (20th?). I have read all your books since then. I like to support Oberlin writers: you are an amazing one. I hope you enjoy your teaching in this new year, and that it benefits your health as well.
Thank you, Catherine! I am so delighted that you have read and enjoyed my books. I have a couple more I am hoping to sell to publishers soon! Hope 2025 is good to you. I am glad to hear from you and I am grateful for your support.
I’m so glad you are going to Paris with Carla!! I will miss seeing you but you’ll get my dad and Vinny to keep you entertained and in good cancer company! Enjoy every second with the students they are lucky to have you teaching them.
Thank you, Angela! Sorry you won't be here but I am looking forward to hanging with the rest of your family! Carla is always good medicine. Lots of love!
I know how you feel. These doctors never seem to say the right thing in the right way to us. There were many times I felt horrible over the years at my check ups due to careless wording. I was diagnosed with melanoma stage 3B ten years ago... I have never been told I was/am in remission. At my 10 year scans they said that my chances of getting melanoma were the same as everyone else's now... but never - you're cured.
It sounds like you are pushing ahead and doing what you love and what brings you joy and that is some of the best medicine.
Sending you strength, joy, health and purpose for 2025.
Toni, I am so sorry to hear that you have been through melanoma, that sounds incredibly tough, and I hope very much that you are CURED. No matter what doctors fail to say. I hope you also have an inspiring and productive and happy new year. Bon courage! Love, Jennifer
Thank you so much for the kind words. I can't really tell you how happy I am that we're going to be able to spend time together 💛. I will see you tomorrow!!!
I imagine you are a wonderful teacher! You have the passion, the wit, and the heart. I also imagine your students help lift you up; mine always did. Sending you best wishes for continued healing and many beautiful moments.
I think of you often .i remember when you were maybe ten or so walking in Groton maybe on Main Street all dressed up in a pretty dress probably sent from your Grandmother Steil and reading a book as you walked. It was so you and so charming .
Wishing you all the best in your fight to regain your health. Admiring you in your fight to get the very most out of your life right now.
Thank you, Carol! I appreciate the memory! I feel that so many of the memories of our childhood have disappeared into my mother's dementia. She was the holder of our family memory. I miss her mind. And you are probably right that my grandmother sent me that dress! My mother was always too practical to indulge impractical clothing. :-) I hope you and your family are well and have a happy 2025. I miss ice skating on your pond! Love, Jennifer
I am sorry that she seems to put a damper on all positive news, but I agree that work and travel are a great remedy! Writing and reading is so restorative, and I hope you enjoy your teaching gig! We are all rooting for you, Jennifer!

I love the idea of a summit between heads of state! I hope we both come to the same positive conclusions and remain at peace! Love from Paris!

Glad you're making the trip. Have fun with Carla and the Rosemont crew!
Merci! Thank you for waiting in the wings just in case of cancer-related emergencies! xo
