Award-winning author and ovarian cancer wrangler Jennifer Steil talks writing, reading, recurrence, and remission as well as life in the fertile territory between countries, sexualities, identities, cultures, languages, and homes.
It was good to meet you online, Jennifer. You have much to write about and share... goodness, you've led an interesting life. I look forward to reading your posts and send warm wishes for your improved health.
Hi Jennifer. Having had a couple of strokes (mercifully mild), I have thought a lot about my daughter not being able to ask questions of me about her childhood, should I have a more serious stroke and suddenly pop my clogs or be unable to speak. I have found it very helpful (it makes me feel less anxious about those possibilities) to write something for her that she can read if/when she wants to. It's also been good to share the draft with my husband, as it's as much for him as for her. You might find the same?
Yes! I am also writing for my daughter. Though she wants to read everything before I die, in case she has questions. So she can talk with me about things. I am working on this. I hope that you are recovering well from your strokes. That sounds very tough. May you survive and thrive for a long time!
Hello Fenella! Yes, this is a lovely idea. I have part of a draft of a letter to my daughter written. Whenever I sit down to add to it I am overwhelmed by all I want to tell her and I can't always come up with the right words. I think I need to keep that draft open and try to add to it every time I think of something. (I also have an alarming number of journals in our. house that she is threatening to read....!) I hope that you have recovered fully from your strokes. That sounds scary. Thank you for writing!
